We offer guided Bike Trekking excursions in the area of
Rethymnon
in
Crete.
At the begin of each excursion, our bus will take the participants and the bikes to the starting-point.
There we unload the bikes and our guide will lead us leisurely through Crete's most beautiful mountain sites on paved roads with some slight ascents and many downhill sections.

Ida Mountains
Mt. Psiloritis stands 2,456 meters above sea level and overtowers the Nida High Plateau by more than 1,000 meters.
From here we start our bicycle tour which leads us down the northern flanks of the mountain range.
We will see a Mitata (a mountain herds' refuge) and have a tour of the museum at
Anoghia
which is Crete's uppermost mountain village.

At the end of the excursion we will reach Drosia by the Old National Road, famous for it's tavernas, and taste the local speciality: Cretan porkling.

Myli Gorge
Above the coast we pass some small villages on our way to the entrance of the Myli Gorge, for our hike upwards the ravine.
During the Venetian Era, they operated many watermills here the ruins of which today frame the path.
The millers' only descendant runs a small
taverna
with an own vegetable garden in the ravine's upper section.

From the upper exit of the gorge we finally ride down to the North Coast and to the MTB Center.

Miriokefala / Kournas
At Miriokefala between the eastern foothills of the White Mountains, they have a monastery's church with frescos from the 11th and 12th century.
From here at 560 meters above sea level, we head towards Arghiroupolis, the ancient town of Lappa, and visit the springs which provide the town of Rethymnon with drinking-water.

Our tour continues through endless olive groves to Kavellos and to the lake of Kournas which is the island's only natural freshwater lake.
We can have a swim or experience the lake with pedalos, and taste some "mezedes" in a taverna by the northern bank:
These are varied starters which the Cretan people love to combine to complete meals.

Arkadi
"Freedom or Death": Arkadi Monastery is the Cretan symbol of freedom.
We can have a tour of the facility and among others visit the powder chamber where in 1866 the Cretan defendants blew themselves up together with the Turkish occupants who where bursting in.
On our ride down to the coast we experience the island's plantlife.

Carob, orange, olive, and banana-trees frame our route as well as herbs of many kind.

Requirements:
You should be able to ride a mountain bike safely.
Equipment:
A good sun-tan lotion as well as sun glasses are important for whole-day outdoor activities.
For the hike of the Myli ravine, you need convenient sturdy shoes.
Catering:
During the excursions, we will visit small original Cretan tavernas where you can get to know Greek cuisine.

Each excursion starts in the morning with a bus transfer from Rethymnon and returns there in the evening.
|

|
You can stay to any hotel between the city and the eastern hotel suburbs at the 11 kms distant end of the bay.
The excursions and routes are subject to change without notice due to safety reasons or present-day weather conditions, or to support the quality standard, or in the interest of permanent development and improvement of the excursion program.
